Space Heat Treatment Prep Instructions

Thermal remediation (heat treatment) is a highly effective, eco-friendly method for eliminating bed bugs in a single day. To ensure the treatment is successful and your property is protected, please follow these preparation steps carefully. Failure to prepare may result in a rescheduled appointment or an ineffective treatment.

1. General Room Preparation
  • Do Not Move Items: Do not move personal belongings between rooms. Bed bugs can travel on infested items, spreading the problem.

  • Bedding: Leave bedding and pillows on the bed exactly as they are. Do not strip the bed or push it against the wall.

  • Clothing: Leave clothes in drawers and closets, loosely arranged to allow for airflow. Avoid overstuffing drawers or compacting clothes.

  • Furniture Placement: Move all furniture in bedrooms and living areas toward the center of the room, leaving at least 12 inches (1 foot) of space away from the walls.

  • Equipment Space: Leave a 2×2 foot clear space in each room corner for our heating equipment.

  • Closet Floors: Remove all items sitting directly on the floor in closets and place them on top of a bed.

  • Floor Insulation: Pick up any insulating items (like rugs or mats) sitting flat on the floor.

2. Preventing Reinfestation
  • Personal Bags: Leave all bags, purses, and backpacks in the rooms being treated.

  • Valuables: Carry valuables (jewelry, cash) out in clean plastic bags that were not stored in infested areas.

  • Leaving the Premises: Wear freshly dried clothes (high heat for 30 minutes) before leaving. Avoid sitting on furniture once dressed.

  • Evacuation: All people and pets must leave the premises. No one can remain inside during the treatment or return until the process is complete.

3. Items to Remove or Protect

The treatment involves raising room temperatures to between 50°C and 65°C (122°F–149°F).

Place Outside or in a Safe Location:
  • Non-metal horizontal blinds (may warp).

  • Plasma TVs (other electronics are fine).

  • Houseplants and fish (water can stay, but relocate the fish).

  • Pressurized containers (spray cans, fire extinguishers, propane tanks).

  • Firearms and ammunition.

  • Paint, solvents, and flammable materials.

Place in the Refrigerator:
  • Perishable food, wine, and alcohol.

  • Medications and vitamins.

  • Cosmetics, perfumes, candles, wax items, and art supplies (crayons/oil paints).

Wall Decor & Flooring:
  • Posters/Wall Hangings: Carefully remove these and place them in a protective container on the floor or a bed. Airflow from high-powered fans can knock them off walls.

  • Vacuum: Thoroughly vacuum all floors to remove dust and powders. This reduces fire risks and improves airflow.

  • Elevate: Move suitcases, bags, and cardboard boxes off the floor and place them on furniture or beds.

4. Disclosure & Damage Waiver

By allowing Technica Pest Solutions Inc. to perform this heat treatment, you acknowledge the following:

  • Items left in the property will be exposed to temperatures up to 65°C.

  • While damage is rare, some items (laminate furniture, certain adhesives, or specialized flooring) may be sensitive to high heat.

  • Removing items from the treatment area prematurely could result in reinfestation.

  • We may move items or use supportive materials (e.g., milk crates) to ensure effective heat distribution.

  • You accept the minimal risk of damage due to heat exposure and release Technica Pest Solutions Inc. from liability regarding heat-sensitive items.

5. Post-Treatment & Chemical Information
  • Vacuuming: Once you return, vacuum up any dead bugs from baseboards and bed frames.

  • Sightings: If you notice a live insect after treatment, take a photo for identification and send it to us immediately.

  • Vehicles: We strongly recommend treating your vehicle, as it is a common source of reinfestation.

  • Chemical Application (if included):

    • Product: Temprid SC (PCP # 32524).

    • Safety: Stay out until the treatment is complete and the product is dry.

    • Cleaning: No cleaning is required post-treatment per the product label. If a reaction occurs, seek medical assistance.
